Catastrophic Injury Statistics

Catastrophic injuries can happen to anyone at any time. The unfortunate truth is that these types of injuries are becoming more and more common, especially as our society becomes increasingly industrialized.

In this blog post, we will discuss some of the most prominent statistics associated with catastrophic injuries as well as some of the contributing factors.

Catastrophic Injury Statistics

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 200,955 deaths as a result of unintentional injuries in 2020. Similarly, there were 24.8 million physician office visits in 2018 for unintentional injuries and 97.9 million emergency room visits.

What is even more alarming is that these numbers are only increasing. In fact, the rate of death due to unintentional injury has been rising steadily for the past several years. This trend is expected to carry on as our population continues to grow and we become more reliant on technology.

Contributing Factors

There are many factors that contribute to this problem, but one of the most significant is our changing workforce. With more people working in office settings and less in manual labor, there are simply more opportunities for accidents to occur.

Another factor is the aging of our population. As people live longer, they are more likely to experience a catastrophic injury. This is especially true for those who suffer from chronic health conditions.
